Frequently asked
What is Vendémiaire?
Vendémiaire shows today as the French Revolution counted it: the Republican Calendar. It gives the décadi and its décade, the honoured rustic day (a plant, animal, tool or mineral), the year in Roman numerals, the Gregorian date beneath, and a live decimal clock. For iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, widgets and complications.
What is the decimal clock?
In 1793 the Republic divided the day into 10 hours of 100 minutes of 100 seconds. Vendémiaire runs that clock live, and you can show it smooth, digital, or as an ordinary 12-hour face. Midnight is 0:00:00 and midday is 5:00:00 in decimal time.
What are the rustic days and sansculottides?
The Revolution replaced saints' days with nature: each day of the year honours a plant, an animal, a tool or a mineral. The year is twelve 30-day months of three ten-day décades, followed by five (or six, in a leap year) extra sansculottides that belong to no month.
Which leap-year rule does it use?
You choose. Vendémiaire supports both historical rules: the Paris astronomical rule (the year begins at the true autumn equinox in Paris) and the Romme arithmetic rule (a regular leap pattern). You can also pick local solar, zone, or Paris mean time.
Which languages does it speak?
Five: French, English, German, Spanish and Norwegian, in both light and dark. The app follows your system language where it can.
What does Citoyen unlock?
Jour and the live decimal clock are free forever. The one-time Citoyen purchase unlocks Mois, Année, Convertir and the Republican name feature. "Restore purchase" brings it back on a new device.
Does it need my location or the internet?
No internet is needed. Everything is computed on your device. Location is optional and used only for local solar time; without it, the app uses zone or Paris mean time. See the privacy policy.
